Owning 131 companies in over 100 countries and with an extensive dealer network they are a global empire in the interiors marketplace.
Hunter Douglas is all about innovation. Everything they do is centred around careful customisation of design to the customers unique window and home décor needs. Our brief was to create a digital platform that would support the sales activities of in-store dealers while at the time capturing valuable insight into customers behaviours. The system would guide the user through the selection of their window blinds in environments similar to theirs at home. They could customise an entire room set from the wall colour right down to the type of flooring. The main objectives of the system were to inspire, educate and share. The user would be inspired through an extensive library of configurable room assets creating a room in their own home or create something completely different. Each product has it’s own story to tell, so we wanted to bring them to life with in-depth information, from the unique fabric properties, operating systems to installation. And finally the user can export their configured room set and email it to themselves or share via social media.
Aimed at the 30 - 50+ year old market and primarily designed for use in-store on a desktop or tablet our experience is designed specifically for this type of interaction. It was important to create a simple intuitive experience, one which would work with and without the aid of a sales person present.
We began by conducting in-depth user interaction studies to understand the exact customer journey. We then took these insights and mapped them out to form the best possible work-flow. Working with the team at Hunter Douglas in New York we ensured that there was a correct balance between functionality and value added propositions for the user to aid in the sales process.
Using the newly established Hunter Douglas group guidelines as a platform in our design process we evolved the digital language for this new system. From simple illustrated icons, lifestyle photography to the animations, everything had to look seamless, beautiful and bold.
