Work experience - Ethan

20 April 2018

Behind the scenes

So Ethan, you’ve been at Outpost for a month now, what are you working on?

I was first assigned to do some research into a few fast fashion clothing retailers for a pitch the team were working on.

This included:

1) Finding out how the companies keep their audience entertained on their social media accounts

2) What sort of giveaways/ competitions they run

3) What bloggers they use and competitor analysis

I also had the opportunity to photograph some workwear clothing for their client Ballyclare which was great as photography is my hobby. The team really liked my images and they were used across social media for the client - awesome!

What has been your favourite part of your work experience?

My favourite part of my work experience was the photography work i did. I’ve always been interested in photography and do a lot of it in my spare time outside of school.

It was interesting to learn how to photograph clothing too, something i’ve not done before. The Creative Director, Dan, gave me lots of tips on taking into account light, the placement of the clothes and detail shots. I also enjoyed editing the photographs and seeing the finished shots ready for social media.

Describe Outpost in 3 words

Friendly, inspirational, incredible.

Has the work experience been beneficial to you? What have you learnt?

Definitely, i’ve improved my photography and editing skills as well as experiencing what it’s like to work in a professional environment.

What do you want to do in the future?

My dream career would be to working for a company which would send me around the world to photograph the beauty of the planet - is that too much to ask?!

I’d also like to be in the advertising industry working on website design and content.
